Sesquicentennial Time Capsule Contents

- The time capsule DVD is a 45-minute video of interviews with President Spanier, Vice President Triponey, and a number of current Penn State students. Many of the students are leaders who have been involved in some of the hot-button issues of the past two years. Ed Smith, past president of Black Caucus; Christy Merchant, past president of Allies (LGBT/queer group); James Young, past editor in chief at the Daily Collegian; Bridget Daly, past president of the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments; etc. offer their views, and a number of other students discuss their favorite places to hang out and study. Each guest speaks on a number of topics, including where they want to see the university in 50 years. Unviersity Relations' Curtis Parker filmed and assisted in editing the video, which includes video footage and still photography of campus and students in action.

- A brief photo album with photos by Howard Wu attempts to capture some scenes of Penn State at the dawn of the 21st century. The photos aim to capture the physical appearance of campus, as well as the state of student life in 2005.

- The Penn State Blue Band donated a coveted Blue Band pin and some post cards with recent photos of the band and a note about a recent award they received.

- OPP has provided us with a number of newsletters detailing projects representative of the time: single-occupant residence hall space in Eastview Terrace, efforts to make campus more "green" in terms of energy consumption,
etc.

- Intercollegiate Athletics provided us with a DVD they feel captures a representative sample of Penn State Athletics in 2005.

- The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life provided a pin and a brochure capturing the state of Penn State Greek Life today.

- OPP also obtained for us an LED light from the stadium scoreboard. In addition to playing into the beloved football angle of the university, the light is a reminder of LED technology, which is rapidly changing and will most likely play a significant role in the future of energy-efficient lighting.

- The Breazeale Nuclear Reactor provided us with a number of documents commemorating their 50th anniversary, celebrated this year. The packets and brochures provide interesting photos, a detailed history of the reactor, and projections for the future. Information on current research should be very interesting to look back up on in 50 years. They also included a CD-R of more photographs.

- The Hershey Medical Center provided a good bit of literature and brochures about current research and medical techniques, along with some vision statements for their future. These color brochures offer a lot of insight into emerging research into medical practices and medicine. They also included some newsletters, information relative to pediatric cancer research and THON, and their "Plan for Excellence."

- A THON official bracelet.

- The Easter Seals Society of Pennsylvania was kind enough to donate a 2005 commemorative ornament, depicting the Allen Street Gates, in honor of Penn State's sesquicentennial.
